Feeding America – One Big Table
For many people, hunger is only a paycheck away. An unexpected expense or a job loss can happen to anyone. Donations are at a 10 year low while the demand for food increases daily. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin exists to help people through these tough times. Feeding America is the largest private non-profit distributor of food in Wisconsin, serving 330,000 people each year.
- 105,000 of them are children
- 41% have had to choose between buying food and paying for heat and electricity
- 32% have had to choose between paying for medicine or medical care and buying food
Established in 1982 as a project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is a certified member of Feeding America National Food Bank Network, one of 215 food banks nationwide that work together to feed America’s hungry.
To serve such a large number of people, Feeding America partners with 1,100 food pantries, meal programs, soup kitchens, day care and senior citizen programs and shelters who are our members. Members secure their food from Feeding America, and then distribute it to hungry people in their neighborhood. Members pay a shared maintenance fee of up to 19¢ per pound to help defray the cost of transporting food from donors to Feeding America.
Feeding America Food Bank is efficient with its resources. Every $1 donated provides 5 meals. This efficiency is enabled by food donations from more than 650 manufacturers, food brokers and retailers who donated over 16 million pounds last year alone. In 25 years, Feeding America has distributed over 250 million pounds of food throughout the 36 counties of eastern Wisconsin.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin serves hundreds of thousands of people and distributes millions of pounds of food, but the real impact is on one person at a time.
Coming to Breakfast with Santa?
Please bring two non-perishable food items!
The Arandell food drive (benefiting Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin) kicks off November 7 and will continue through December 10 (Breakfast with Santa). This year, all associates attending Breakfast with Santa are asked to bring two non-perishable food items to donate at the door. Additionally, we’ll be collecting non-perishable food items at the plant through December 9.
Feeding America is always in need of any non-perishable food items you can donate, but the items they are in most need of at this time include:
- Canned Soup
- Peanut Butter
- Canned Meats
- Canned Fruit
- Cereal
- Macaroni & Cheese
- Baking & Muffin Mixes
- Canned & Boxed Juice
- Canned Vegetables
- Pasta
No time to shop? You can also visit www.onlineharvest.org/arandell to purchase items through Feeding America’s online store. This link is tied directly to Arandell, so our drive will receive the credit for the food purchased through this link. When you get to the site, simply click on “Shop” and you’ll be able to view a large selection of items to add to your “shopping cart.” Complete the checkout process and your donation is complete. It’s that easy!
Again, we have a lot of time to collect these goods, so let’s make the campaign a success! Starting November 7, donation barrels will be available in the Bindery Supervisor’s Office and also in Hannah Leigh’s (Human Resources) Office. And, don’t forget, when you come to Breakfast with Santa this year, bring two non-perishable food items!
