Color Science

Arandell Color Science offers comprehensive prepress services and solutions to the catalog industry. With a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, we manage complex projects while offering our clients peace of mind. On average, each employee has over 20 years of experience in critical color matching and problem solving skills.

Digital Workflow Solutions

Arandell Color Science works with clients on establishing the most efficient workflow on a client-by-client basis. We do not believe in the “one size fits all” workflow solution. We begin by understanding your internal workflow and challenges, working with you on every step of the process to develop solutions that are efficient, timely and cost effective.

Scanning / Photo Conversion - Color match / retouch

We spend a great deal of time upfront with your photographer, ensuring that they are capturing color in a manner that converts seamlessly into a Web Offset printing platform. In many cases, we establish a customized color converting workflow for each individual photographer in order to meet our client’s expectations.

Each of our color operators has over 20 years of experience with critical color matching and retouching in fashion, food, cosmetics and general hard goods. More importantly, they develop a thorough understanding of each client’s expectations and strive to exceed them with their technical and artistic skills. Each image is meticulously evaluated and adjusted to exacting standards that result in excellent color reproduction on press.

Our entire workflow utilizes calibrated monitors, scanners, and color proofing devices so that we can maintain consistent and predictable color throughout our process. Arandell adheres to the GRACoL 7.0 standard throughout its entire workflow. GRACoL (General Requirements for Application in Commercial Offset Lithography)

Proofing

Arandell Color Science offers both hard copy and soft proofs to our clients for both color and content.

Kodak Approval Proof - 150 & 175 Line Screen
20 & 25 Micron Stochastic
Epson Inkjet Proof
Kodak InSite On-Line Proof – content and color*

All proofing options are calibrated to GRACoL 7.0 specifications. Arandell requires a hard copy proof for use on press.

* The use of InSite for color requires the appropriate equipment at the client site and pre-approval prior to its use.

Workflow / Page production

Arandell Color Science offers 100% digital workflow solutions. All of our digital workflows are based on a PDF-X1a file format. We utilize a fully automated Kodak Prinergy Workflow for receiving, preflighting, optimizing and outputting client supplied files.

Every project is run through the same workflow which controls all of our output devices, including proofing and platemaking, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout our entire process. Your job is RIP’d once prior to output (RIP Once – Output Many) so your proofs will match what is plated.

Content Management

Kodak EyeMedia makes all your content easy to find and easy to retrieve — making it much easier to control and maintain your corporate brand. The ability to find and distribute anything in your archive at Internet speed will give your entire organization a demonstrable competitive edge.

Our secure digital asset management system is available to you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can simply view them or, within a couple of clicks, place them directly into a shopping cart and download them right to your desktop.

Asset management services are free to all prepress clients.

Paper

The majority of paper that is purchased by Arandell comes from paper mills or distributors that have met the standards for Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. SFI designates that members of the North American forest products industry are leading efforts to promote responsible forest management. The FSC sets standards that are intended to promote environmentally responsible forestry practices. Arandell holds a FSC chain-of-custody certification.

Product Mix

Our current product mix is divided between coated freesheet grades and coated groundwood grades. Since many of our customers require high quality, the majority of the grades we consume fall into the number two and three freesheet category. The bulk of our paper is produced in the U.S. and is spread among the four or five largest coated paper manufacturers. One of the reasons for this approach is to allow our clientele the flexibility within the narrowest time-frame to make changes to their print order. We try to guide customers to use the brands experienced by our pressroom that produce the best results. The more we can narrow down the focus to a few grades and finishes, the greater the pressroom efficiencies.

Paper Calculator

The Paper Calculator is a free, one-of-a-kind, interactive tool that enables companies, NGOs, communities, schools, and other organizations to understand and improve their paper use. Developed by Environmental Defense, the Paper Calculator provides users with U.S. average wood consumption, energy use, and other environmental impacts of different paper types across their full life cycle. For each of the 13 major grades of paper and paperboard, the Paper Calculator allows the user to compare the environmental impacts of papers made with different levels of recycled content and to see how using less paper or changing other specifications can reduce environmental harm.

Mailing & Logistics

As one of the leading web offset printers in North America, Arandell can back you with world-class logistics and support. We mastered the technique of mailing and distributing catalogs long before most mailers understood the complexity of catalog distribution.

Consulting

Our team of highly trained professionals will assist you in reviewing all facets of your mailing program. We know it’s not just a catalog, it’s your brand. Co-Mailing

The co-mailing system used is a sophisticated approach that is more effective and less restrictive than co-stitching. The co-mailing program allows catalogers vast partnership opportunities based on in-home and mail dates and our strategy gives nearly any cataloger the opportunity to participate. Co-mailing will be a part of our industry for the foreseeable future and Arandell is at the forefront of this transformation.
